Breath Counting Meditation

A simple counting technique to develop concentration and calm

Choose Duration

Instructions

Find a comfortable seated position with your spine upright but relaxed. Close your eyes gently.

Take three deep breaths to arrive in the present moment.

Now, begin counting your breaths. Count "one" at the end of your first exhale. "Two" at the end of the second exhale. Continue up to ten.

When you reach ten, start again at one.

If you lose count or realize you've gone past ten, simply begin again at one. There's no failure here—the noticing IS the practice.

Counting gives the mind a simple task, making it easier to stay present with the breath. The numbers are just a tool; the real practice is present-moment awareness.

If the counting becomes automatic and you're lost in thought while counting, slow down. Feel each breath fully before counting.
